The three-day "AAE International Conference on Space Exploration" organised by the Air and Space Academy (AAE) will take place at Politecnico di Torino (presential only), with the support of the university, of the Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIDAA) and of the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC).
Dedicated to the topic of Space Exploration, automated as well as manned, the purpose of the conference is to focus on a few important underpinning themes, with the aim of providing useful input to agencies or other bodies in charge of building programmes.
Sessions and speakers
Several keynote speeches given by leading personalities will address exploration purposes and policies. Introduced by an overview of the current state of play of scientific knowledge and technical progress, seven sessions will examine aspects often under-represented in space policies but fundamental for most exploration projects:
Philosophy and cultural motivations
Dream missions (featuring four prizewinning projects selected by SGAC)
The first step: towards an environment-friendly approach to Lunar exploration
Flying machines
Going faster (and further)
Water: our quest for “oases” in the Solar System
Human-robots collaboration
Each theme will be prepared by a dedicated group of experts, tasked with publishing a detailed paper on the conference website summarising the main issues to be addressed and providing first orientations. Among the many speakers of the conference:
Jean-Jacques Dordain, AAE member and President of the Programme Committee, former Director General ESA
Michel Wachenheim, President of AAE
Erasmo Carrera, President AIDAA
Guido Saracco, Rector of Politecnico di Torino
Josef Aschbacher, Director General ESA
Samantha Cristoforetti, Astronaut, ESA
The detailed programme of the three days of the conference is available on the event's official website.
